Nia Jax is more than a wrestler, she is an inspiration to many as a successful plus-sized wrestler. Nia is of Samoan and German descent and is a relative of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Currently, she’s off rehabbing a double ACL injury but it won’t be long until she’s back and stronger than ever.
Nia Jax singed to NXT in 2014 as Zada and her name changed to Nia Jax in August of that year. Her debut match was against Evie which she won, not long after, she began a winning streak against many enhancement talents and Carmella. Nia then teamed with Eva Marie acting as a bodyguard for the wrestler, Nia had an unsuccessful title attempt at NXT Takeover: London. After taking time off due to a kayfabe injury, Nia defeated Liv Morgan and then went back to assisting Eva. Nia defeated Alexa Bliss and Carmella to become the number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship in which Asuka retained. Her last match in NXT was also against Asuka.
During the brand split in 2016, Nia was drafted to RAW. Nia went onto another winning streak and then entered into a feud with Alicia Fox, she took part in her first ever women’s traditional five on five tag team match Survivor Series match and was submission eliminated by Becky Lynch. She then had a feud with Sasha Banks and took part in a Fatal-Four-way Elimination Chamber Match against Sasha Banks, Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Bayley. Nia was eliminated first after the other three teamed up to take her out. Nia entered a gauntlet match during RAW to determine the number one contender for the RAW Women’s Championship in which she lost to Sasha Banks in the last match.
At No Mercy, Nia took part in a Fatal Five-Way for the RAW Women’s Championship but was once again unsuccessful in getting the gold, she once again took part in the Survivor Series in the traditional women’s five on five tag team match but was eliminated due to count out. Nia then entered into an on-screen relationship with Enzo Amore which was thankfully scrapped when Amore was released from the company. Nia was a participant in the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble in which she eliminated Jacqueline, Kelly Kelly, Ruby Riott and Naomi, it took six women to eliminate her. Nia then had a feud with undefeated Asuka but repeatedly lost. Nia was betrayed by longtime friend Alexa Bliss which led to some uncomfortable body shaming comments from Bliss. At WrestleMania 34, she finally won the RAW Women’s Championship.
Nia had a successful title defence against Alexa Bliss and afterwards, Ronda Rousey turned her attention to the RAW Women’s Champion. At their match at Money In The Bank, Nia lost her Championship back to Alexa Bliss who cashed in the Money In The Bank briefcase, Nia was unsuccessful in an attempt to get back the Championship at Elimination Chamber in an Extreme Rules style match. After a short hiatus due to injury, Nia teamed with Ember Moon temporarily and eliminated her during a Battle Royal at Evolution, her prize was a future Championship contender match. Nia then teamed with Tamina Snuka again. During a SmackDown invasion, Nia punched Becky Lynch in the nose breaking it, this caused Becky to miss her Survivor Series match against Ronda Rousey. At Survivor Series Nia Jax took part once again in the traditional women’s five on five tag team match and this time around was the last woman standing. At TLC, Nia was once again unsuccessful in regaining the RAW Women’s Championship.
Nia entered the Women’s Royal Rumble at number 29 and was eliminated by Becky Lynch, later that night, Nia became the first women to enter into both the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble match in the same night and the fourth ever women to enter the men’s Royal Rumble match. Nia Jax attacked Dean Ambrose and the two were going to have a match at a house show, but it was scrapped. Nia and Tamina teamed together to go after the new Women’s WWE Tag Team Championship at Elimination Chamber in the Elimination Chamber match. However, they were unsuccessful. The duo again took part in a Fatal Four-Way at WrestleMania 35 for the Women’s WWE Tag Team Championship but was once again unsuccessful. It was shortly after this her injuries were announced.
Nia Jax has appeared on Total Divas with storylines dealing with wanting body acceptance and trying to find somebody to love. Nia Jax has walked the catwalk during New York Fashion Week at CURVYCon, this year, Nia also walked for The Bella Twins fashion company Birdie Bee during Scottsdale Fashion Week. Just like her theme says – “She is not like most girls”
