Becky Lynch is absolutely on fire in WWE right now, everybody loves the power of the LassKicker or as she currently calls herself – The Man. Bex has always had great star power and is a number one for many wrestling fans, but her latest title run has elevated her even higher than anybody thought possible.
Bex was trained by Fergal Devitt (Finn Bálor) and Paul Tracey in Ireland back in 2002, then she was known as Rebecca Knox and even teamed with her brother in mixed tag tagged action. Bex worked through promotions in the UK making a name for herself in the process. In 2005, she started working for promotions in North America including; SuperGirls Wrestling, New England Championship Wrestling and even participated in the International Women’s Grand Prix in Japan teaming with Aja Kong and Gran Hamada. During this time, she took part in and won an eighteen-person Battle Royal. In 2006, Bex began to wrestle for Shimmer Women Athletes and even went back to Japan, by the time 2008 rolled around however, Becky realised wrestling might not be for her and decided to try other pursuits. During her time away from wrestling, Becky tried out; clown school, being an actress, personal trainer, a stuntwoman and a flight attendant but the lure of wrestling was too strong, and in 2011 she returned to Shimmer to be manager for Saraya and Brittani Knight.
2013 rolled around and Bex was signed to NXT, the name Rebecca Knox was dropped and she became Becky Lynch debuting at a live event. Her televised debut came in defeating Summer Rae, Bex teamed with Bayley in a losing effort to Charlotte and Sasha Banks, she even had some unsuccessful title attempts against Charlotte. Bex even teamed with Sasha Banks, but Sasha turned against her during her match against Bayley. In 2015, Bex was called-up the main roster to be a part of the Divas Revolution along with Sasha Banks and Charlotte. She teamed with Paige and Charlotte to form Team PCB, Bex got her team victory at SummerSlam in August by pinning Brie Bella. The night before, she appeared at NXT TakeOver Brooklyn after Bayley defeated Sasha Banks for the NXT Women’s Championship, she along with Charlotte entered the ring after the match, and after an emotional exchange, all four women put up four fingers, Four Horsemen style and The Four Horsewomen were born.
After Charlotte finally won the Divas Championship, Paige turned on both of them, thus ending Team PCB, Bex continued to team with Charlotte but Charlotte began to slowly show deceit towards her. Through December, the duo were hanging on by a thread, and it was January of 2016, that Charlotte decided to fully sever ties with Bex and cemented her heel turn. Bex had two unsuccessful title matches, due to interference from Charlotte’s Father – Ric Flair. Bex teamed with Sasha to take on Tamina and Naomi, Bex then took part in a number one contenders match against Sasha for a chance to be Divas Champion. The match on RAW ended with a double pin, a rematch was scheduled for SmackDown, but Charlotte attacked the pair, the result ending in a Triple Threat at WrestleMania XXXII. Alhough Bex didn’t win the brand new RAW Women’s Championship, it was a stand out match for many.
After WrestleMania, Bex entered in a feud with Emma, she also teamed with Nattie during this time. The teaming with Nattie lasted until the duo lost to Charlotte and Dana Brooke at Money In The Bank, after the match Nattie took out her frustrations upon Bex swiftly ending their time together. The Brand Split came in July, and Bex was SmackDown’s first female pick. Her first match for SmackDown was defeating Nattie, afterwards Bex had several frustrating attempts at trying to have matches against Eva Marie who kept finding ridiculous reasons not to participate. After a losing effort at that years SummerSlam, Bex won the inaugural SmackDown’s Women’s Championship in a six-pack elimination challenge. Immediately afterwards, she began to feud with Alexa Bliss to defend the Championship, Alexa was eventually successful in gaining the Championship (in the first ever Women’s TLC match) ending an arguably short reign for Bex .
Bex cleverly disguised herself as masked wrestler La Luchadora to get a match with Alexa, after she kept refusing to fight Bex again. Bex’s title rematch came in the form of a Steel Cage match during an episode of SmackDown, and a returning Mickie James donned on the La Luchadora garb causing Bex to be unsuccessful in regaining the SmackDown Women’s Championship after Mickie attacked her. Bex managed to defeat Mickie James twice, but then lost to her and then Alexa for the vacant SmackDown Women’s Championship. Bex was also unsuccessful in regaining the Championship in yet another six-pack challenge at WrestleMania XXXIII. After WrestleMania she teamed with Naomi and Charlotte to take on Nattie, Carmella and Tamina, the trio lost at Backlash. Bex was also unable to be crowned the very first Miss Money In The Bank, she won a fatal five-way to be team captain of the women’s Survivor Series team but was unfortunately the first women to be eliminated at Survivor Series. During the final weeks of 2017, she continued to team with Charlotte and Naomi in a feud against Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan).
Bex took part in the very first women’s Royal Rumble in 2018, she entered at number two and lasted over thirty minutes before being eliminated by Ruby Riott. At WrestleMania XXIV, she took part in the first ever Women’s Battle Royal, but was eliminated by Mickie James, Bex also competed in the Money In The Bank Ladder Match for a second time, but was once again unsuccessful. After MITB, Bex went on a winning streak defeating the likes of Carmella, The IIconics, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, the Straight Fire of Becky Lynch was back. She automatically gained a shot of the SmackDown Women’s Championship at SummerSlam due to this streak, however Charlotte was entered into the match and pinned Bex to win. Bex was pissed and attacked Charlotte after briefly celebrating with her, a much needed fuel was lit inside Bex and she began to ruthlessly attack Charlotte over and over again. Neither woman backed down in who was right in why Bex attacked her, a match was set for Hell In A Cell and Bex regained the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Bex’s fire raged on as the duo had a rematch at Australia’s Supers Show-Down and undeniably the match of the evening at Evolution in a Last Women Standing. By this time, Bex had started to refer herself as The Man and even put WWE Legend Edge in his place during SmackDown’s 1,000th episode. Bex turned her attentions to Ronda Rousey for their Champion vs Champion match at Survivor Series, her promos on SmackDown and interactions with Ronda on Twitter were electric. The RAW before Survivor Series, Bex was the figurehead of an invasion putting Ronda in the Dis-Arm-Her backstage before launching a brutal attack on the women of RAW. Due to a punch to the face, Bex began to bleed profusely, but she wore this as a badge of honour, her face was smeared with blood and her hands were soaked. It was a beautifully gruesome sight as Bex continued her assault regardless of all the blood flowing. RAW ended with Bex in the crowd, blood all over her face continuing to goad Ronda Rousey, it was an unforgettable sight. Unfortunately, the injury resulted in Bex’s nose being broken and she suffered a serious concussion, she had to pull out of the Survivor Series match, Bex named Charlotte as the woman who’d take her place at Survivor Series.
It is not certain how long Becky Lynch is out for, but the fire inside her is still firmly lit and she’s only going to come back more fierce than ever. Becky Lynch is one hell of a wrestler, and there’s even a rumour that she’ll be headlining WrestleMania XXXV, there’s absolutely no stopping her.
