Kenny Omega vs. Tomohiro Ishii – IWGP United States Championship Tournament Finals

missbeckiechatteri

After beating Jay Lethal and Zack Sabre Jr respectively, both competitors were fired up for the match, and the chance to become New Japan Pro Wrestling’s first ever IWGP United States Champion.

As soon as the bell rung, it was obvious this match was going to be great. Ishii tried to get Omega into a side Headlock fast, but changed tack and attacked him with forearms instead. Omega pulled back with a kick to Ishii, and Ishii instantly wanted more. Omega drove two more kicks into Ishii, and again Ishii wanted more, so Omega rained stomps down upon his head. Ishii hit a Suplex and Omega sought refuge outside the ring. Ishii followed him, chopping him, until Omega went over the barricade and into the crowd.

Furious chops danced over Omega’s chest as he is pushed back into some chairs. The chopping continues as both men went throuh the crowd and back towards the ring. Omega once again went into the barricade, Ishii wanted a German Suplex, and Omega gripped hold of the barricade in an attempt to stop it being successful. Ishii finally hit the German Suplex slamming him into the ground and Omega returned the favour with a Suplex of his own.

Back inside of the ring, Ishii attacked Omega with brutal force and Omega fought back hard, both men fighting strong style. Ishii executed a Power Slam and Omega retaliated with a Spike DDT, causing both to go down and seeming unable to get up. Once back up, Omega got the upper hand in their next trades of blows with a Running Fireman’s Carry into a Moonsault. Omega capitalises on this with a High Leg Bulldog. There was a Terminator spot from Omega, with shades from his Wrestle Kingdom entrance and an over the top rope summersault. Omega grabbed his knee after landing on the outside, and the ref (Red Shoes) goes to check on the knee. This is all a ploy for The Young Bucks to slide and set up a table from beneath the ring. Omega magically recovered back inside the ring, shaking it off as if it was nothing.

Ishii got hit with Missile Drop Kick to the back of the head, and Omega remained in control of things. Omega tried his utmost best to knock Ishii down, but Ishii refused to go down. Omega nailed a Frankensteiner in a bid to quit any momentum Ishii had. Then began a battle on the apron, precariously close to the set up table, Omega wanted to send Ishii crashing down, but Ishii waa not going down without a fight. Omega tried to perform a Suplex, but Ishii bit down on the top rope, briefly this worked, before finally Omega hit a Dragon Suplex causing both men to go falling down.

They made it back inside the ring, before the 20 count, and Omega went V Trigger crazy upon Ishii. He went for a final kick which Ishii blocked, until a Big Knee connects and Omega goes for the cover. Ishii kicked out and the battle continued on. Omega went for his infamous One Winged Angel which Ishii countered with a DDT, he then turned Omega inside-out with a Lariet. Ishii then went for an Avalanche Suplex off of the top rope for a near fall. Omega then hit his finisher for yet another near fall. Omega then connected with a Snap German but got rocked only moments later with a Stiff Lariet, for one final near fall.

Omega tried to go for a High Leg Bulldog, but Ishii caught him and performed Omega’s One Winged Angel, which Omega kicked out of the pin. Omega then struck Ishii with yet another one of his V Trigger High Knee and knocked him down with a Palm Strike. Onega then nailed a Cross Legged Neck Breaker and another Running Knee. Ishii hulked up, only to be hit with a Dragon Suplex and one final Running Knee. Omega hit the offence on Ishii and landed yet another One Wing Angel for the win.

Omega always puts on one hell of a match, and Ishii definitely gave the Canadian a run for his money.
