It’s time for another interview with somebody who pods!! This time with the man behind No Particular Angle – JPQ:
Beckie Chatteris – What made you decide to start a podcast?
JPQ: Well, I didn’t like being handcuffed to a character limit is probably the most honest answer. I tend to be a bit wordy in real life so finding another outlet to express myself needed to happen one way or another haha.
BC: Expressing yourself is always a good thing, what do you do to make your podcast stand out?
JPQ: I focus on the speculation of professional wrestling. Half the fun, in my opinion, is trying to call your shot as the storyline is being developed. I’m a huge fan of the movie ‘Clue’ – that was kind of the inspiration for NPA. I feel it stands out (or has the potential to) because who doesn’t love theorising storylines or current events in wrestling?
BC: It’s definitely one of my favourite things to do. Who would you like to podcast collaborate with?
JPQ: I’m down for a collaboration with anyone! Anthony Suter from Smark to Death was just on, Wilfred from Wilfred Watches and I have something in the works, Darren from WhyWeWatch have discussed working together – the way I see it – many podcasts were generous to bring me on to share my thoughts, it’s now my turn to pay it forward.
BC: Do you plan your podcasts, or do you just decide when you start recording?
JPQ: I definitely plan ahead … what’s neat is my ‘research’ is consuming wrestling and then just thinking about what makes the most sense moving forward – forming the remainder of the storyline, whether 2 weeks, 2 months, etc.
I try to incorporate different promotions to bring awareness of different wrestling to whoever chooses to listen to the podcast.
BC: Covering bases for all fans is important, is there any topics you wouldn’t cover?
JPQ: I think any topic can be approached if discussed objectively.
BC: That is a fantastic view to have. One final question, what advice would you give to anybody wanting to start a podcast?
JPQ: Jump in with two feet – the water is warm! There is no right or wrong in the world of podcasting – find something you’re passionate about and just do it. We’re all in this together – everyone i have reached out to for help has been super responsive, you learn as you go. to quote Rounders ‘You can’t lose what you don’t put in the middle. But you can’t win much either.’
Thank you JPQ for the interview! You can listen to the podcast on Podbean and ITunes
